"We're All in This Together" is a song from the Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical and appears on the soundtrack of the same name. It features vocals from the cast of the movie including Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, and Drew Seeley, who sings for Zac Efron's character Troy Bolton.[1] It was written by Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil, with production credited Gerrard, and executively produced by Kenny Ortega, Bill Borden, and Barry Rosenbush. The song uses elements to simulate a school pep rally, such as a whistle and school band instruments. It also features a dance in the chorus iconic to the scene in the original movie.[2] The song was released as the second single from the soundtrack on October 16, 2006 and is considered a signature song from the franchise.[3][4]

The song has a length of 3:51, has a tempo of 116, and is in the key of C# Major.[5] The song describes coming together despite their being differences between each other. It's used in the film during the finale number, where the whole cast comes together in the East High school's gymnasium to celebrate Troy Bolton scoring the winning point during the school's basketball championship. Certain cast members have solos throughout the song, with Seeley as Bolton having the first, Hudgens taking second, Grabeel taking third, Tisdale taking fourth, and the cast singing together for the songs main chorus and ending Wildcat's chant.
The track received considerable attention after it was posted online in 2010 as a free download, and it helped the group garner a multi-album record deal with Columbia Records imprint Startime International. "Pumped Up Kicks" proved to be a sleeper hit; in 2011, after receiving significant airplay on modern rock stations, the song crossed-over onto contemporary hit radio stations. The song spent eight consecutive weeks at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, making it the first Billboard Alternative Songs number-one single to crack the U.S. top 5 since Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" in 2009. The song was widely praised by critics, and it has been licensed for use in a wide range of popular media since its release. "Pumped Up Kicks" also received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The song remains the band's most successful hit single to date.
A listeners poll by Toronto radio station CFNY-FM (102.1 The Edge) voted it #1 in a list of the top 102 new rock songs of 2011.[50] NME ranked it number 21 on its list of the "50 Best Tracks of 2011", writing, "Unusually for a song so omnipresent, listening to its hyper-upbeat melodies about a psycho high-school kid-killer is still an enjoyable experience."[51] The magazine's readers voted "Pumped Up Kicks" the year's eighth-best song.[52] At the end of 2011, the song received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.[53]
